First Print Edition Analysis
The 2025 Topps Marvel Mint Comic Cuts are created by physically cutting panels from original comic book pages. Our research indicates that the source comics used for this set are first print editions of the respective issues.
For Silver Age comics (1962-1969), first prints are identifiable by specific cover price points, distribution marks, and printing characteristics. The Fantastic Four issues used in this set — particularly #5, #10, #39-40, and #57-60 — were originally printed by Spartan Printing with distinctive newsprint stock and four-color separation techniques characteristic of the era.
Whether one considers cutting first print comics a cardinal sin or a stroke of genius, the result is undeniable: each of these 200 cards contains an irreplaceable piece of Marvel history. A panel drawn by Jack Kirby's hand. Dialogue written by Stan Lee. Art that has existed since the Kennedy administration, now preserved in a trading card.
These aren't reproductions. They aren't scans. They are the original pages — and once cut, they can never be reassembled. That's what makes this set both controversial and extraordinary.
